Editor, Daily News: Lee County’s District 3 has a challenger for the position of county commissioner. It has been 20 years with the same representation and I feel it is time for new blood and new ideas. Anita Cereceda will bring that. She comes with outstanding credentials and a history of dedicated community service. Anita is the owner of two successful businesses on Fort Myers Beach, where she was the first mayor and a leader in the complex and demanding procedures of creating the new town. She was re-elected to a second three-year term on the council. Anita continued her service with a voluntary three-year term on the town’s Local Planning Agency, where she served as chair. During that time she was instrumental in the creation of the Fort Myers Beach short-term rental ordinance in single-family-zoned areas. She is dedicated to limiting commercial intrusion in residential areas and to controlling the intensity and density of use in Lee County as well. She is a member of the Lee County Charter Review Committee and she chaired the Metropolitan Planning Organization while mayor. She was a member of the Drug Free Coalition for Lee County, Coastal Advisory Committee, liaison for the town to Tourist Development and president of the Times Square Merchants Association. Cereceda grew up in Lee County. Her home and her businesses are here. She has distinguished herself with service to the town and county. With her as a commissioner, all of the communities throughout Lee County will receive the attention we have long deserved. Vote for Anita Cereceda in the Republican primary on Aug. 26.
